Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you:

  • Subscribe to our newsletter
  • Contact us through our contact forms
  • Interact with our website and content

This may include your name, email address, and any messages or content you provide.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Send you our newsletter and updates about Folk Technica
  • Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
  • Improve our website and content
  • Comply with legal obligations

Information Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties without your consent, except:

  • To service providers who assist us in operating our website
  • When required by law or to protect our rights
  • In connection with a business transfer or merger

Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data
  • Portability: Request transfer of your data
  • Withdrawal: Withdraw consent at any time
  • Object: Object to processing of your data

To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]

Cookies, Local Storage & Tracking

We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. Here is the complete inventory of what this site stores on your device, and the third parties whose embedded content may set their own cookies.

What we store (first party)

  • ft-notice-dismissed (localStorage) - remembers that you closed the privacy notice so it doesn't reappear on every page. Set only after you click the button.

That's the whole list. It's a functional preference that never leaves your browser, contains no personal data, and disappears if you clear your browser storage. We set no first-party cookies at all.

Embedded third parties

  • YouTube (videos): we embed videos in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which sets no cookies unless you press play. If you play a video, Google's privacy policy applies.
  • Substack (newsletter signup box): the embedded signup form is served by Substack and may set Substack's own cookies. See Substack's privacy policy.
  • Google reCAPTCHA (contact form only): the spam check on our contact page is provided by Google and may set cookies on that page. We use it because the form doesn't work without spam protection.
  • Google Fonts: typefaces load from Google's servers, which receive your IP address as part of the request. No cookies are set.

Our contact form's messages are processed by Supabase (our form backend); browsing the site sends nothing to Supabase and stores nothing.

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Building projects with kids is great - the grown-up should be the one signing up for the newsletter or sending us messages.

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Newsletter and Communications

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we will send you regular updates about Folk Technica content, gear reviews, and industry insights.

You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or contacting us directly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
